This piece says Aztec Influence to me. It reminds me of their temples. I work like a child who is playing with building blocks. I begin with a pile of foam blocks which are actually odd-shaped boxes. I usually start with a bigger one and glue other pieces to it. Soon a pattern or theme begins to show. I try to expand on it and listen to it tell me what it wants to be. Sounds corny but I have no idea where I am going to go when I start. Sort of like a Weege Board concept. The trick is to stop at the right time before I overdo it and garbage it up.
Picasso said it took him 50 years to learn how to draw like he was 5 again. I just happen to be a 7-year-old trapped in an 80-year-old body. This is one of my all-time favorite pieces. It is a maquette as well as a small sculpture. A metal fabricator will measure off of it and make metal boxes and weld them together to make it any size. Great for a corporate logo statement. You control all costs.
